You probably don't eat the same thing everyday, so why would you spend time with the Lord the same way all the time? Variety keeps a relationship feeling fresh and alive. To that end, I wanted to share with you a resource we developed for our CCC Summer Project in Ocean City, New Jersey.
Each week we set aside an evening we call "Date Night With Jesus" so that the students and staff can spend some extended time alone with God. We change it up during the week where we focus on relationships in the Body and instead have a "Communal Quiet Time." Personally I love it (I am a very relational person). If you want to give it a try, I've included the article here for you. Feel free to pass this resource on to others.
Communal Quiet Time -
I tried this at Ocean City with Justin Dodson and really enjoyed it. I really appreciated just opening the scriptures and trying to understand them. It was so first century church.....
Sometimes we assume that everyone has always had a copy of the bible to read but that has only been the case for the last 200-500 years of Christendom (post-Guttenberg press)
Most of the history of christianity the scriptures have been examined communally.

I forget that too sometimes. We've somehow made a "personal relationship with Jesus," just that...all to yourself.
I'm glad you liked the Communal Quiet time Kai. Have you tried it since OC?

Hey Bob! I found your blog through copying my husband's list of people he follows on Twitter... and came across this great resource! I'm definitely going to use it for some discipleship times and maybe even my own friends in accountability. Thank you! Hope the summer was a good one and I praise God for the work He's done in so many peoples' lives through you and Jill.

Kelley,
The book it comes from is good too. Will Walker's "The Kingdom of Couches." Keep watching this space for more great resources! :)
